Opto Ballista

I bought a Ballista Pro as the first Trilogy disc I tried. I left another review for it but to summarize I found it to be too overstable for me. I lack the arm spead to get the Pro to hold anything but a hard hizer line for about 325 ft. This had me thinking maybe I shouldn't throw 14 speed discs, but I still wanted to try the original Ballista and I'm glad I did! This disc is defeinitely more understabel and intermediate friendly. Even though it is 14 speed I find I can throw it relatively easy and still get proper flight dynamics. I'm getting it out 350-400 ft with the perfect 'S' pattern routinely throwing flat angle. It holds its flight pattern and tries to fight back even in a head wind more than other understable discs I've thrown. I don't lose this one to overturn as much as I thought I would. Plastic has good grip and came in a brighter green/blue color. Not sure how easy it will be to find once summer green-up comes but it sticks out against brown winter background right now. This is one of my go-to RHBH drivers, especially if I need to flex around an obstacle directly in front of me. I also have the DD Raider and Westside Sorcerer (13 speed). The Ballista has the potential to go further, but propably only in a tailwind for me. Right now I throw it about the same RHBH distance as the other two (although mostly throwing into headwinds in practice right now). I probably get the most consistent distance out of the Raider, but they are all very close (10 ft max difference). The Ballista has a bit more flex in it than the Raider/Sorcerer, as is consistent with the flight numbers. Out of the 3 I tend to overturn the Sorcerer more than Ballista even though the Sorcerer has more stable flight numbers (Sorcerer is a touch more beat in). All 3 discs are perfect for Hizer-flips, but I don't even try to throw the Sorcerer in a headwind any more unless its a roller.

As a side note, the Ballista Pro has ended up turning into my go-to RHFH driver. I didn't like it at first for RHBH as its overstability limited the distance I could throw it. But this same overstability now lets me throw it HARD forhand on anhyzer for looooong flext shots. I'm actually throwing it forhand just as far as my backhand shots with other distance drivers (350-400 ft). I LOVE this disc in the wind now as the overstability makes it EXTREMELY predictable and consistent. My home course is windy with mostly headwinds this time of year and I have started using the Pro almost exclusively off the tee with forehand flex shots into headwind and it puts me dead center in the fairway 95% of the time with good distance (350 ft avg into headwind).

I like all the Trilogy discs I've mentioned (I also throw MVP and Discraft just FYI) but the Ballista and Ballista Pro have a permanent home in my bag for exact opposite shots. Ballista for backhand tailwind and Ballista Pro for forehand headwind. I recommend both and will purchase both again.

Great flight, not the most eye catching despite colour

Good disc that gets great distance with a bit of flex. Imo a bit flippy for its speed (and turn) numbers, especially if you go down a few gram from max weight, which only helps with said flex.
If i had to find room for improvement it would be that the transparency is a bit strong in contrast to the colour in regards of being able to spot the disc easily. That being said I have only tried two colors and find the pink one to be more visible than the orange one.

Thank you for the detailed review of the Opto Ballista! We're glad to hear that you enjoy the disc.

Have a great day.

4hand only beast

People love to see me send my 14speed Ballista down tight fairways 400ft +. It just goes straight, and in a hurry!
